Navjot Kaur

Navjot Kaur is a young chef and the only woman in Portugal leading a restaurant dedicated to traditional Indian cuisine. Like her mother, Navjot always dreamed of pursuing a career in this world and, although she initially embarked on a career in Dermatology, she never abandoned her true calling. She remained committed to mastering fine-dining techniques, exploring ingredients, and preserving the culinary traditions of her homeland, strengthening her expertise and gaining experience through professional training.

With the support of Franky, an experienced business manager, her dream became a reality. Thus, Putpari was born: a journey into the authentic aromas and flavors of India in the heart of Lisbon

An Indian Restaurant
Unlike Any Other

“We’re not quite fine dining, but we’re very close,” says Frankie without hesitation. In the kitchen, an exclusively Indian team, led by two chefs, continually raises the standard of quality toward excellence. Stepping through the doors of Putpari is the beginning of a journey through the vibrant flavors of India’s ancient culinary heritage.

The drinks menu features an impressive selection of signature cocktails created by Rawat Viru, perfectly complementing the ambitions of the food menu. To ensure the comfort and satisfaction of Lisbon’s diners, Putpari also offers a carefully curated selection of organic wines and bottles from medium-sized producers.

History

Navjot and Frankie are a couple. She is a chef; he is an IT manager with extensive business experience. They share one great passion: the food of their homeland.

During their honeymoon journey through South India, they met a woman drying chili peppers who told them the story behind the powerful putpari chili. According to legend, a Portuguese navigator, deceived by the harmless appearance of what he thought was a small pepper, put it in his mouth and immediately burst out with a colorful exclamation: “Putqpariu!”

For Navjot and Frankie, the restaurant’s name was found.

Today, they run a warm and soulful restaurant in downtown Lisbon, where an all-Indian team showcases the very best of the country’s culinary traditions, with particular emphasis on specialties from Northern India. Authentic Indian food lives here

The Team

Chef Navjot Kaur and Chef Mor Singh are the pillars of the kitchen team, combining expertise, passion, and a positive spirit. Frankie brings his business management experience to Putpari. He is also the owner of an organic products store in Lisbon’s Mouraria district—an idea that once seemed risky but ultimately proved highly successful.
